About Retina Care

Comprehensive Retinal Care
Under One Roof

The retina is a delicate, light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye that is essential for sharp, clear vision. Retinal diseases — from diabetic retinopathy to macular degeneration — require expert, timely care to preserve sight.

At Watany Eye Hospitals, our world-class retina team combines the most advanced diagnostic technology with proven treatment techniques to deliver outcomes that genuinely change lives.

Advanced Diagnostics

OCT, Optos ultra-widefield imaging and fundus photography for precise, early detection of retinal conditions.

Medical Retina Care

Intravitreal injections, laser therapy, and targeted medications for diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

Surgical Retina Care

Advanced vitreo-retinal surgery for retinal detachments, macular holes, and complex retinal diseases.

Treatment Options

Treatment Services

The hospital offers a variety of treatment options for retinal diseases. Our experienced surgeons and physicians tailor every care plan to each patient's individual condition and needs.

Intravitreal Injections

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD): Anti-VEGF medications injected directly into the eye to slow vision loss and, in some cases, improve vision.

Diabetic Retinopathy: Targeted injections to reduce fluid, prevent new vessel growth, and protect your central vision.

Retinal Vein Occlusion: Injections to reduce swelling and preserve visual function after blockage of retinal blood vessels.

Laser Therapy

Diabetic Retinopathy: Laser treatment to seal leaking blood vessels and reduce the risk of further vision loss.

Retinal Tears: Laser retinopexy to seal retinal tears before they progress to a full detachment.

Retinal Detachment: Pneumatic retinopexy and laser procedures to reattach and stabilize the retina.

Vitreo-retinal Surgery

Retinal Detachment: Vitrectomy and scleral buckle procedures to reattach the retina and restore vision.

Macular Holes: Microsurgical repair to close macular holes and improve central vision.

Epiretinal Membranes: Surgical removal of scar tissue from the retinal surface to reduce distortion and improve clarity.

Your Journey

Prepping for Your
Retinal Surgery

Whether you're coming in for an injection, laser procedure, or complex vitreo-retinal surgery, our team guides you through every step before, during, and after your treatment.

Consultation

During your initial consultation, our doctor will discuss your medical history, perform a comprehensive eye exam, and explain the recommended treatment plan in full detail.

Pre-Operative Testing

We may conduct additional tests like blood work and imaging studies to ensure you are a suitable candidate for surgery and to plan the safest, most effective approach.

Medication Adjustments

Inform your doctor about any medications you are currently taking, as some may need to be adjusted or temporarily discontinued before surgery to reduce risk.

Advanced Technology

Our surgeons utilize state-of-the-art surgical suites equipped with the latest operating microscopes and technologies, ensuring optimal precision, safety, and patient comfort throughout the procedure.

Eye Care

You'll likely be given an eye shield or patch to wear for protection, typically for a few days. Avoid rubbing or touching the operated eye. Wear sunglasses when outdoors, especially if your doctor used a gas bubble during surgery.

Vision Recovery

It's normal to experience blurry vision or a feeling of having a foreign object in your eye after surgery. Vision improvement can take weeks — patience is an important part of recovery.

Positioning

Depending on the type of surgery, your doctor might instruct you to maintain a specific head position for a certain period. This might involve staying upright or avoiding lying flat on your back.

Medications

Your doctor will prescribe antibiotic or steroid eye drops to prevent infection and inflammation. Follow the instructions carefully regarding dosage and frequency for the best outcome.

Diet

You can resume a normal diet following surgery unless your doctor advises otherwise. Staying well-nourished supports the healing process.

Activity Restrictions

Take it easy and avoid strenuous activities that could increase eye pressure for at least a week. This includes lifting heavy objects, bending over, and straining. Avoid getting water in your eye for at least a week or as directed by your doctor.

Flying After Vitrectomy Surgery

If no gas bubble was used, you may be able to fly as soon as a few days after surgery. If a gas bubble was used, you will typically need to wait for the bubble to fully dissipate before flying — this can take a few weeks to a few months. Always get your surgeon's clearance before flying.

Follow-up Appointments

Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress and ensure the best possible long-term visual outcome.

Every patient's recovery timeline is different. Always follow your surgeon's specific instructions and never hesitate to contact the clinic if you notice any sudden changes in vision, increased pain, or unusual symptoms.
